THE STORY

The Diverse Voices in Docs (DVID) Fellowship supporting emerging filmmakers in the Midwest celebrated ten years of elevating dynamic BIPOC filmmakers.

THE CHALLENGE

After ten years, Diverse Voices in Documentary is no longer distinctive in the landscape of support for filmmakers who identify as Black, Indigenous, and other people of color.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Position Diverse Voices in Documentary as a program for filmmakers who view documentary as a practice, not simply a genre or a format; elevate the voices of filmmakers whose views and work traverse differences and destabilize sameness.

THE SOLUTION

Ten Voices, Ten Years was a limited online publication of commissions from Diverse Voices in Docs alumni whose voices have helped shape and grow this fellowship and the entire field of documentary. Over ten weeks, the essays centered the reflections and experiences of filmmakers and the curious-minded ways these artists explore, challenge and reimagine established frameworks for documentary story-finding and storytelling about the world (and the people) around them.
